The president called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM with ten members present.

The newsreporter read what happened at the May 20, 2004 meeting since the secretary was absent.

The president reported on his meeting with the Association for a Better Rockport. The area below the bluff was discussed with the possibility of boats docking there.

The treasurer's report was given.

A letter was read requesting that the Historical Society once again sponsor an award for the 4-H Grand Champion in Genealogy for $25.00. It was voted to do so.

A letter was read from the reference librarian at the Rockport Library requesting help in purchasing a digital camera for a history project she is doing in coordination with the Library of Congress - Veterans' History Project. A motion was made and seconded that we pledge $50.00 to help buy the camera and they could ask other organizations to help also. It was voted to do this.

It was brought up about making a donation to the Friends of Lincoln Pioneer Village and Museum. A motion was made and seconded to give a donation of $100.00. It was also discussed to have the County Historian investigate what needed to be done to preserve the original signs on the stone columns that were erected when the Lincoln Pioneer Village was first opened.

There was a discussion on posting markers at historical sites in the various parts of the county. We will have a meeting in the future to discuss this further and have a map of the county to locate the places.

A member mentioned that the Spencer County Fair was having their opening on Sunday, June 6, 2004 and the presentation of the plaque purchased by the Historical Society was to be at 12:30 PM.

A video of a newscast of May 7, 2004 was shown. It was concerning the Boner Bridge that was going to be restored keeping the historical integrity of the bridge since it is the oldest iron bridge in Indiana.

A copy of the by-laws had been found and it was decided to have copies made so we can revise them at the July 6, 2004 meeting.
