Tuesday, July 6, 2004.

The president called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM with ten members present. One visitor also joined the Society.

The secretary read the notes from the previous meeting that had been posted on the web site as she was absent.

It was announced that the Tri-State Genealogical Society's fall seminar is scheduled for October 23, 2004 at the Executive Inn, Evansville, Indiana from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The speaker will be John Philip Colletta.

The treasurer's report was given.

Several correspondences were read. One included a reference to the results of the work some of the Society members did to help preserve Boner Bridge.

A new magazine is being published in the area, Hoosier Heritage. A motion was made and seconded to subscribe to the magazine for one year. It was voted to do this.

A member reported that the original signs on the stone columns at the Rockport City Park had been replaced and all were fixed.

A member reported that Spencer County is the first county in Indiana to have a "Fair Museum" according to Russ Stillwell who was at the opening of the 150th anniversary of the Spencer County Fair.

It was brought to the Society's attention that this is the 50th anniversary of the making of the movie "The Kentuckian" which was filmed in part at the Lincoln Pioneer Village with many local people as extras. There was a discussion about the Historical Society possibly helping to place a plaque near the Transportation Building, which was specifically built for the movie.

The discussion, started at the last meeting, continued about the placing of historical markers - the type of marker to be placed, whether we would ask for help from the state or purchase the markers ourselves, and the fact that we need a list of historical sites. The president was going to contact the person in charge of grants and see if it would be possible for us to get a grant.

A committee was formed to go over the by-laws and see what revisions needed to be made. It was decided not to change the date for the payment of membership dues. The membership year will stay from August 1 to July 31. The committee will meet in the Genealogy Room at 7:00 PM on July 27, 2004.

A request from the librarian to purchase a CD of Warrick Co., Indiana, Naturalization Records was read. A motion was made and seconded to purchase the CD. It was voted to do this.

It was stated that the Genealogy Room would be receiving a copy of the 150th Anniversary Fair Book.

The next meeting will be August 3, 2004.
