The president called the meeting to order with 15 members and three guests present.

The order of the meeting was changed.

We had a presentation from Phil Jahn, from Hoosier Business Machines, talked about a replacement copy machine for the Society to use for newsletters. He had prices for several models.

Lloyd Martin, of Santa Claus, gave a presentation on Santa Fee, which later became the town of Santa Claus. Lloyd's grandfathers were postmasters at Santa Claus. James Martin was the first postmaster to answer letters written to Santa Claus during the Christmas season. In 1935, Jim Yelling got the assistance of the Legion to help with the Christmas mailing and answering the letters from children (over 1/2 million letters).

The minutes from the last meeting were read and approved.

The treasurer's report was given. A motion was made and seconded to pay the bills. Motion carried.

Thank you cards were read from the Historian of the Year recipients, Joe and Gene Groves, and the Commemorative Historian's family, the Troths.

A member mentioned several e-mails that he had received. One was from Jim Cooper about another old iron bridge in Spencer County, and one was from the Newburgh Historical Society.

A member had not received word from the County Commissioners about approval to purchase supplies to work on the Huffman Bridge, so no workday was set.

Talk turned to purchasing a new copier. A motion was made and seconded to purchase the smaller copier, as it would fit our needs. The motion carried.

The meeting adjourned at 8:55 PM.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, June 7, 2005 at 7:00 PM. There will be NO meeting in July.
