Tuesday, March 6, 2007.

The meeting was called to order at 6:45 PM with 12 members present.

There were no minutes read.

The treasurer gave a year-end report for 2006. She also gave the reports for February and March.

The president mentioned the kiosk that had been the topic of the last several meetings. As the Ohio Scenic Byways Commission had not changed any of the wording to be historically correct, and we had already voted not to give any money for a duplicate sign, the matter was considered resolved - we weren't going to help pay for the kiosk.

It was brought up if we wanted to continue having the Historian of the Year banquet. Everyone was in agreement that we did want to continue this honor. Several open dates were mentioned in the month of May. As there were conflicts, it was decided to see if it would be possible to hold it in June this year. The president was going to check on the availability of the Chrisney Community Center.

A discussion was held on the honorees and the speaker for this year. After much discussion, the honorees and the speaker were selected. They will be announced after they have been notified.

It was also mentioned about the catering for the meal. A member is going to check on this.

A motion was made and seconded to have a member order the appropriate plaque for the Historian of the Year.

A member mentioned that the Delta Queen may be stopping at Grandview in the future. The passengers would be loaded on buses and tour Spencer County for four hours.

The upcoming Lincoln Celebration was mentioned. A member said that a man has a flatboat and is considering recreating the flatboat trip that some local men did for the Sesquicentenial in 1968. The flatboat is high tech, but those workings are not visible from the outside. There will be more on the possibility of the flatboat trip later.

It was brought up about having a booth at the State Fair to sell some of the books which the Society has. It was mentioned that the Visitors' Bureau had a booth last year. It was asked if it would be possible to share a booth.

The president mentioned that he had an idea of copying articles that have been in the local newspapers through the years as a way of "Showing Abraham Lincoln through Spencer County eyes".

A motion was made and seconded to purchase a book that had been sent to the Society. It was Indiana's Ohio River Scenic Byway by Leslie Townsend. Motion carried.

A member told about the old planks from Boner Bridge. They were being used for a building in Gentryville, IN.

The member also read an e-mail from Historic Newburgh. They have set a tentative date for dedication of the new Boner Bridge on May 5, 2007 as part of Nationial Preservation Week. They hope to have Congressman Brad Ellsworth attending.

A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 8:10 PM.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at 7:00 PM in the Genealogy Room.
