The Spencer County Historical Society met on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 in the Rockport Library Genealogy Room.

The meeting was called to order by the president at 6:30 PM with five members present.

The minutes from the last meeting were read and approved.

The treasurer’s report was given.

The treasurer mentioned that a check had been mailed to The Friends of Lincoln Pioneer Village to pay for the six benches which we had voted on at the last meeting.  The benches have been picked up and they are going to have nameplates made for them saying – Donated by the Spencer County Historical Society - 2009.

Historic Landmarks of Indiana had sent a letter requesting a donation.

The president read a book request from the Genealogy librarian.  A motion was made and seconded to purchase “Warrick Co., IN Index to Marriages 1902-1919”.  The motion carried.

A motion was made and seconded to also purchase “Spencer Co., IN Index to Deaths 1926-1945” which would fill in some of the missing dates of the books the Genealogy room already has.  The motion carried.

The Historian of the Year Banquet for 2010 was the next topic.

The president had contacted the Extension Office and had reserved the date of April 17, 2010 for the banquet.  The Historians of the Year were selected.

A motion was made and seconded for the guest speaker.  The motion carried.

A member is going to check into the catering of the meal.  A final decision on the caterer will be made at the February meeting.

A member is going to get the plaque and nameplate for the Historian of the Year.

A member suggested that the Society needed to develop a new logo that was more fitting to what the Society does.  It was mentioned that a member had created several logos a few years ago.  It was suggested that examples be brought to the next meeting.

A postcard had been sent to the president showing the lions at the old Lincoln State Park Entrance.  The person was wondering what had happened to the lions.  A member mentioned someone had told that the lions and eagles had been thrown into the lake when the lake was made at Lincoln Park.  The president mentioned that if you drive around back of the City Hall in Tell City, Indiana, there are two lions that look similar to the ones on the postcard.  No one knows for sure what actually happened to the lions and eagles.

The president mentioned having a speaker at the February meeting.  He was going to contact someone to speak for about thirty minutes before we have our regular meeting.

A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting.  The motion carried.  The meeting adjourned at 8:00 PM.

The next meeting will be February 2, 2010 at 6:30 PM in the Genealogy Room.  There will not be a meeting in January.
