October 4, 2011

The Spencer County Historical Society met on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 in the Rockport Library Genealogy Room.

The meeting was called to order by the Vice-president at 6:30 PM with 6 members present.

The minutes from the last meeting were read and approved.  Several e-mails were read.

The treasurer’s report was given.

A member asked if there was an inventory of the Genealogy Room.  The vice-president was going to check with the librarian to see if there was a list of the contents of the room.  The Society, which used to be located in the basement before the remodeling, had the materials and set up the present room.  The vice-president also mentioned that the masters for the microfilm were in the fire-proof safe in the basement and copies could be made if they are needed.

Several pictures were shown of the Meeks markers.  One located near the property on 700 W and the one in Graff Cemetery.  There had previously been a sign on County Road 700 N directing people to the marker, but it is now gone.  Making the two markers more visible was tabled until the next meeting.

The vice-president mentioned that we need to be thinking about the Historian of the Year honorees for 2012.

A member asked about the Boner Bridge plaque that was stolen.  Did the Society want to replace the plaque and locate it on the other end of the bridge with the one still standing?  This item was tabled.

A member inquired about doing something for Kris Manley similar to what was done for Bess Ehrmann and Joyce Brown.  This item was also tabled.

Once the again the Huffman Mill Bridge was discussed.  Both Perry and Spencer Counties have money to be spent on the bridge, but so far nothing has been done.

A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting.  The motion carried.  The meeting adjourned at 8:50 PM.

The next meeting will be November 1, 2011 at 6:30 PM in the Genealogy Room.
