April 3, 2012

The Spencer County Historical Society met on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, in the Rockport Library Genealogy Room.

The meeting was called to order by the president at 6:48 PM with four members present.

The minutes from the last meeting were read and approved.

The treasurer’s report was given.

The president showed a copy of the letter that he had sent to the Spencer County commissioners concerning Boner Bridge flooring being replaced with metal decking.  According to an article in the March 27, 2012 issue of The Spencer County Leader, the commissioners agreed to join Warrick County to replace the flooring with treated lumber.  One of the reasons stated for the deterioration of the historic bridge was that it had not been replaced with treated lumber but with “green” lumber in 2004.

The secretary mentioned the Society was still waiting for the microfilm reels of The Spencer County Leader 1999 - 2006.  She has had problems getting the State Library to get them shipped.

Photos were shown of the work that a member had done to install the Honig plaques at Mt. Zion Cemetery near Richland.  A motion was made and seconded to reimburse the member for his supplies.  The motion carried.

Photos were shown of the plaques that Grandview Aluminum Products had produced using a new process.  They had asked the Society’s help in getting the wording and pictures for the plaques.  They have completed one for Huffman Mill Bridge and it is beautiful.  They are working on another one for Sandy Creek Landing in Grandview, Indiana.

The president reminded the secretary about getting the one day event insurance for the Historian of the Year banquet.

A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting.  The motion carried.  The meeting adjourned at 7:30 PM.

There will be no meeting in May.

The next meeting will be June 5, 2012 at 6:30 PM in the Genealogy Room.
