The Spencer County Historical Society met on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 in the Rockport Library Genealogy Room.

The meeting was called to order by the president at 6:45 PM with 8 members present.

The minutes from the last meeting were read and approved.

The treasurer’s report was given.  The balance in the treasury is $3,221.05.

The president read a Thank You note from the Spencer County 4-H Association for the $25.00 which the Society gave for the Genealogy award.  Wyatt Morris won grand champion.

The treasurer read several notes that were received with dues renewals.

The unofficial corresponding secretary read several e-mails he had received since the last meeting in June.

A member gave a report on his program with the Meade County Historical Society in Brandenburg, Kentucky.  For the program, he went through the “Dowser’s Toolbox” and also showed a DVD of  a segment of Hal Wolford’s On the Backroads where the member was dowsing blindfolded in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

It was mentioned the Society has only one good copy of “Minute Book of Little Pigeon Baptist Church 1816-1840”.  That copy was sold during the meeting.  A member is presently going through a copy of the book from the Indiana State Museum.  He is comparing it with a copy of the Society’s book.  After he finishes and notes the changes, the Society is considering having the book reprinted.

The president made a proposal for the Society to meet and have a member dowse some sites at the Lincoln Homestead at the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial.  It was finally agreed that members would meet at 2:00 PM, Monday, August 12, 2013 at Nancy Hanks Lincoln’s gravesite for the dowsing.  A member is going to talk to the superintendent about the Society’s visit.

The Genealogy Room had requested the purchase of two books of Spencer County, Indiana marriages.  The president is going to talk to the librarian about them as the Society already has books covering the same dates.

A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting.  The motion carried.  The meeting adjourned at 8:10 PM.

The next meeting will be September 3, 2013 at 6:30 PM in the Genealogy Room.
