The Spencer County Historical Society met on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 in the Rockport Library Genealogy Room.

The meeting was called to order by the president at 6:42 PM with six members present.

The minutes from the last meeting were read and approved.

The treasurer’s report was given. 

Several items were mentioned:

· There will be an archeological dig at the Col. William Jones house.  No date was specified.

· Received an e-mail from Casey Pfeiffer, of the Historical Marker Program Manager at the Indiana Historical Bureau, wanting to have pictures sent of the other three state markers in Spencer County.  A member consented to send the pictures to her.

· A member had received a book, A Nurse Remembers, written by Eula Awbrey Sforza from Melanie Woodworth of Oregon, Wisconsin.  Mrs. Sforza graduated from Rockport High School.  The book is to be placed in the Genealogy Room.

· The president had received information about a book, 1812 The Land Between Flowing Waters, written by Ken Leland.  Since the book concerns Marshall and Elkhart Counties in northern Indiana, the Society was not interested in purchasing the book.

A motion was made and seconded to postpone the Historian of the Year Banquet scheduled for October 11, 2014 until 2015.  The motion carried

A member mentioned that the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts is having their national convention in Frankfort, KY on October 23, 24, and 25.  There will be many pieces of pioneer furniture on display and collectors from all over the United States.

The president mentioned the possibility of having Eddie Price, author of Widder’s Landing, speak at one of the Society meetings.  It could be an event co-sponsored with the library.

A member announced that he would be giving a program on Thomas Lincoln on November 6, 2014 to the Retired Teachers Association of Harrison and Crawford Counties in Indiana. 

A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting.  The motion carried.  The meeting adjourned at 7:25 PM.

There will be no meeting in October.

The next meeting will be November 4, 2014 at 6:30 PM in the Genealogy Room.
