February 3, 2015

The Spencer County Historical Society met on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 in the Rockport Library Genealogy Room.

The meeting was called to order by the president at 6:30 PM with six members present.

The minutes from the last meeting were read and approved.

The treasurer’s report was given.

The Historian of the Year Banquet was mentioned.  A motion was made and seconded to cancel the banquet for this year.  After much discussion, the motion carried.  It was then decided the Society would have a small dinner meeting at The Rockport Inn on April 7, 2015 to honor the chosen historians.  The president will cancel the reservation at the Spencer County Youth and Community Center and make arrangements with The Rockport Inn

The president read a letter from the Indiana Historical Society asking for a nomination for a Spencer County historian.  The term was expired for the former historian and they had not been able to contact him.

A member mentioned the fact the Society pays $500.00 a year for coverage on the contents of the Genealogy Room.  He questioned what exactly did the Society own in the room, was there an itemized list of purchases made by the Society, and since many of the items were irreplaceable, was it worthwhile to have the insurance?  The president thought at one time there had been an inventory made for the Genealogy Room.  He is going to check with the library to see if this is true.

The president told he had attended a meeting at Chrisney.  They are preparing for the 150th anniversary of the town which will be held around October 10, 2015.  They are trying to find old memorabilia that is connected with Chrisney.

There will be no meeting in March.

The next meeting will be a dinner meeting at The Rockport Inn on April 7, 2015 at 5:30 PM.

A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting.  The meeting adjourned at 7:45 PM.
